Goat Landscaping

In the heart of Avon, NY, at Dutch Hollow Goats, we’re pioneering a change in how we approach landscaping. Our mission? To merge ecological sustainability with the practical needs of land maintenance. As we embark on a new season, we’re thrilled to unveil updates to our goatscaping services, designed with you and the environment in mind.

Pricing Structure:

  • Show Up Fee (First Day): $1,200
  • Each Additional Day: Just $250

This new plan is designed to offer flexibility and affordability, ensuring that whether you have a small backyard needing quick attention or larger acreage seeking extensive care, we’re ready to tailor our services to your needs. Do you have a larger project like solar fields or municipal lots? Contact us for more information.

Our Process:

  • Fencing: We use electric fencing to contain our goats safely on your property. This ensures they focus on the job at hand and remain protected. While watching our goats at work is enjoyable and educational, we kindly ask that children and pets maintain a safe distance to keep stress levels low for the goats.
  • The Goats’ Diet: Our goats are hard at work eating away unwanted vegetation, which includes weeds, brush, and overgrown areas. While they’re not equipped to take down trees or thick vines, they significantly open up areas up to a browse line, making it easier for traditional landscaping method to finish the job. Goats are not a lawn mowing service. They are adapted to eat ‘up’ not ‘down’ like sheep and cattle. While goats may eat some grass they are better suited for brush, briars, saplings, and vines.
  • Service Details: Our day 1 set up fee includes a Dutch Hollow team member coming on site to clear a 3-4 ft wide path for our electric fence, set up food, water and shelter for your goat crew. It also includes the 1st day of clearing and removal and tear down of fencing, post completion.
  • Daily Care: A member of our dedicated crew will visit daily to check on the goats, ensuring they have enough water and food. Our commitment to the well-being of our goats and the success of the project is paramount.
  • Fair Billing: If we quote your job for 5 days but complete it in 4, you’re only charged for the actual time the goats were on-site. Our billing is based on the work done, not just the time quoted.
  • Payment: The base fee is required upfront before setup, securing your booking and ensuring everything is ready for the goats’ arrival. Post completion you will be invoiced for each day the goats were there after the initial set up day. A ‘Day’ is defined as goats on site at any given hour of the day.

The Heart of Our Herd: Why Myotonic Goats?

In our quest to offer the most efficient and environmentally friendly goatscaping services, we’ve chosen a special breed to lead our efforts: Myotonic goats. These goats, also affectionately known as “fainting goats,” are at the heart of what we do and for good reason.

Hearty and Low-Maintenance: Myotonic goats are known for their robust health and minimal care requirements. They thrive in our local climate, making them perfect for the task at hand—clearing your land efficiently without the need for constant oversight.

Friendly and Approachable: Beyond their work ethic, these goats bring a level of friendliness and charm to our service. They’re gentle with humans, making them fantastic workers that also double as temporary pets you’ll love watching.

Respectful of Boundaries: Perhaps one of the most practical reasons we choose Myotonic goats is their known behavior to not jump fences. This trait makes them ideal for goatscaping, as they stay within the designated areas for clearing without the risk of wandering off. This means less worry for us and for you, ensuring the job is done efficiently and safely.

The Results

After our goats have grazed, you’ll notice a remarkable difference in your land’s appearance. While they can’t tackle trees or thick vines, they effectively clear out underbrush and weeds, preparing your land for its next phase—whether that’s more detailed landscaping work or enjoying a cleaner, more open space.

Looking Ahead:

With 24 weeks of grazing ahead of us, we’re gearing up for a busy season. Planning to expand our herd and services, we aim to reach more homes, businesses, and municipalities, spreading the word about the benefits of goatscaping.
