Myotonic Goats

As we have slowly been winding down our equine breeding program we have been building up an new herd.  Myotonic goats!  What is a myotonic goat?  They are also known as the Tennessee Fainting Goat.  These goats have a gene that makes their muscles freeze when they become startled.  Outside of pets and entertainment value they are a fast growing meat goat with a high yield for their small size.

Here at Dutch Hollow we discovered how easy these goats are to keep.  Love their small size and the fact that jumping isn’t really high on their dexterity roll. They are friendly, curious, easy to train and fun to have around. Even better they tend to stay inside the fence.

Fainters are a small to medium sized goat averaging in weigh from 60 – 150lbs for a big buck.  Their heavy muscling makes them weigh much more than their deceivingly small stature.

Kids are born weighing just a few pounds and grow quickly.  Balls of energy they sometimes take a few days to weeks before they first start to faint.  While all our goats are registered fainters not all of them may faint.  Fainting is rated on a scale of 1 to 6. With 1 being you’ve never noticed them locking up to 6 being extreme stiffness where movement is difficult.  The genes we picked for our breeding program lie in the middle.  Where if startled they will lockup and some fall over but most day to day activities they have a high quality of movement.

Our foundation herd includes 6 does ranging in age 2021 kids to 2 years old and 2 bucklings from 2021 eagerly waiting for their chance to be called bucks.

Stay tuned as we will have future  kids available for sale hopefully in 2022 or 2023!
